Kelly Sheardown
MSW, RSW., Registered Social Worker
Welcome! I am a Registered Social Worker who has a counselling practice in Windsor, Ontario. I help individuals and couples learn the tools needed to manage their emotions so that they can build strong and secure relationships. I will offer you a warm welcome and a place where you will be able to share your concerns in complete confidence. I invite you to contact me so we can work together to help you find relief from the distress you or a family member are experiencing. We all face challenges at some point in our lives and therapy can provide you additional insight and support you may need to face these challenges and begin the process of healing. You are in the right place if you struggle with depression, anxiety, grief, PTSD (abuse, violence, suicide), relationship issues as well as self-esteem or self-worth issues. I also enjoy treating people with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder. I have extensive experience working in the field of Trauma with a focus on Grief and Anxiety. I work within a number of effective therapeutic modalities including: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). I have 20 years of experience working with adolescents and adults. I will help guide you in managing your mental health in a healthy, balanced way. I love my work, and look forward to working together to meet your goals. “ Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – Helen Keller Expertise: I received an Honours of Bachelor Degree in Social Work from the University of Windsor (2000). I have a Graduate Certificate in Social Work Practice with Families and Couples and a Masters of Social Work Degree from Wayne State University (2001). I am registered with the College of Social Work and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and a Member of the Ontario Association of Social Work (OASW). I began my career in child welfare where I worked with children, families and community services to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children. I spent five years working at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital on the Windsor-Essex Community Crisis Phone Line as well as having worked in the Emergency Room seeing individuals in crisis. I was able to return to the University of Windsor, where I completed my undergraduate degree, as a Therapist for students between the years 2005-2009. The last ten years I have spent in the town of Leamington as a Senior Social Worker with the Leamington and Area Family Health Team. After twenty years of working for community and health care organizations I am now proudly in my own Private Practice: F.I.N.E. Counselling Services. Where did the acronym F.I.N.E. Come from: What do we often say to people we meet up with people and they ask us how we are? We say we are FINE! I have come to learn that when people say they are 'fine' that they often are Feeling Insecure Nervous and or Emotional. Fine is a safe word. I would encourage you to come work through your feelings so you can be the best version of yourself and can begin to move past feeling 'fine.' A Passion for Volunteering: Volunteering at a young age guided my decision to become a Social Worker. I have spent many years volunteering my time with vulnerable individuals. I have volunteered with the W.E. Care for Kids Foundation, sat as a committee member on the S.A.F.E. Committee (Teen Health Centre) as well I took the Hospice training and spent time with people as they experienced final stages in their life. I also take pride in volunteering my time at my child’s school where I have been to assist in preparing and delivering fresh fruits to children through the breakfast club program. |
